Vaginal Pain

It's a little known fact but most women, at least 75% will experience a yeast infection at least once in their lifetimes, and most will experience recurrent yeast infections. If you suffer from a yeast infection then you know that vaginal pain can be one of the symptoms.

Other symptoms besides vaginal pain include vaginal itching, a burning sensation, a rash, soreness of the vagina, redness around the affected area, and sometimes even a slight swelling in or around the vagina.

These are all common symptoms of yeast infections, and you might experience some of them, all of them, or none of them. This depends to a great extent on your present overall health, your susceptibility towards the yeast infection and the severity of the yeast infection.

Vaginal pain can also herald pain when urinating and pain during sexual intercourse. If your vaginal pain is severe in either of these cases, you should consult with your doctor immediately to see what relief might be available to you.

You should be aware also that some people have adverse reactions to medications like Monistat which are used to treat yeast infections. A lot of people have no reactions but it has been reported that some people might experience vaginal pain or a burning sensation.

In fact continued use of these drugs if you experience such a reaction can make your vaginal pain worse. As an alternative you have the choice of using herbal remedies to treat your vaginal pain but you should do so only if you're certain you want to, and if you're not taking any other medications.

If you are taking other medication for either a yeast infection or other medical conditions you should ideally check with your physician to ascertain whether your remedies will react with each other.

In most cases the remedies are harmless and are the product of common sense, but it always pays to be cautious. For instance remedies utilizing such things as yogurt or garlic are fairly harmless unless you're allergic to any of these.

You can include these in your daily diet to help get rid of vaginal pain, but if you're seeking immediate relief you can smear your vagina with unsweetened yogurt to dull the vaginal pain.

Or you also have the option of using a peeled garlic clove wrapped in gauze and tied with a length of unwaxed dental floss. You then insert this into your vagina like a tampon with a piece of the dental floss dangling to be able to pull out the gauze.

And if these don't work you could always try using a vinegar douche to rid you of your vaginal pain. Douching isn't normally recommended, but in the case if yeast infections, it can be beneficial if used properly.

You'll want to use 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to 1 quart of water for the vinegar douche. These are all viable methods for dealing with vaginal pain, and yeast infections.

Vaginal Odor

A side effect of yeast infections which you might notice is vaginal odor. This can come about as a result of the vaginal discharge which is a common symptom of yeast infections.

This can be cleared up speedily if the yeast infection is also cleared up. Unlike the old school of thought douches are not needed to get rid of vaginal odor. And although douches have been known to cause many a problem of the vagina there are still quite a few women who use them to get rid of vaginal odor.

In actual fact the vagina needs no such help. The only time that there will be a strong unpleasant vaginal odor is when there is a medical condition such as a yeast infection, or in some cases when a woman is menstruating.

And even in this last case the odor is not necessarily a vaginal odor, but is instead is the odor of dried blood and the discarded byproduct from the ovaries. The vagina itself normally holds a musky odor that is unique to every woman.

Many people aren't aware of this, or refuse to believe this, but the vagina is self cleaning organ and needs no outside help.

By using such things as industrial douches, scented feminine hygiene products, and vaginal deodorant sprays to ensure of the elimination vaginal odor, you are in fact destroying the delicate balance of the vagina.

Douches for instance will rid you of any perceived vaginal odor, and flush out anything and everything that's residing in the vagina including the good bacteria which is needed to keep the vagina in balance. This is why douching on a regular basis is bad for you.

The use of scented feminine hygiene products like scented pads, panty liners and tampons, although might seem harmless, in the long run it can be quite detrimental. Since these products all stay in intimate contact with your vagina there can be a buildup of infection causing bacteria which can also lead to an imbalance.

This is especially true of tampons. If tampons are left in the vagina long periods of time during menstruation, the accumulation of blood left to ferment in the humidity of the vagina can lead to Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), as a result of certain types of bacteria forming.

The purpose of the scented tampon - to mask the unpleasant vaginal odor - is also lost if the tampon is left for long periods of time. Vaginal deodorants will also only work for a short period of time at masking vaginal odor. In the long run these deodorants will destroy the vaginal balance creating even more problems.

The moral of the story then, is that although you might believe that you have a vaginal odor, this is not necessarily the case unless you're suffering from a medical condition of which vaginal odor is a symptom. A woman's natural vaginal odor can be pleasant and musky, and not at all revolting as you might be led to believe.

Vaginal Itching

Vaginal itching can be a terrible thing and something that most women would prefer to avoid like the plague. Unfortunately due to any number of reasons this just isn't possible. Many women suffer from vaginal itching and at the most unfortunate and uncomfortable of times as well.

Since it's not exactly possible to go around itching your vagina in public, most have to settle for suffering in silence, or resorting to a little flexing of inner muscles in the hope that some relief can be had.

For some women the vaginal itching is so unbearable they have to seek relief in anyway possible, and this might involve a quick trip to the ladies room to give in to a bout of maddened itching.

Relief for vaginal itching can come in many forms, but one of the easiest things you can do is to use some Aloe Vera to help you. If you're able to use some fresh Aloe Vera juice and apply to the affected area. You can either use your fingertips to do this or you can soak a piece of cotton wool in the juice and apply it that way.

Alternately for itching, you can also use powdered Slippery Elm bark. This will need to be purchased from a store which sells herbs. Mix this powder with a little water to form a paste and apply to the affected area much as you did with the Aloe Vera juice.

Another good remedy to put a stop to unbearable vaginal itching is to use a yogurt tampon. Dip the tampon into a tub of unsweetened yogurt and then insert into the vagina.

Alternately you could freeze some yogurt in the fingers of disposable gloves, and use these as frozen yogurt tampons which you would then insert into your vagina.

You also have the option of using a vinegar sitz bath to relieve your vaginal itching. You will need to fill the bathtub hip deep with water and add

Vaginal Irritation

It would be normal to assume that with the great strides made in the world of medicine these days that such small things as vaginal irritation due to a yeast infection would be all but eradicated.

Unfortunately this is just not the case. Medical strides notwithstanding, many women who suffer from a yeast infection also tend to suffer from vaginal irritation as well.

This vaginal irritation is of course due to the yeast infection, but since not all medications work to truly clear out a yeast infection for at least a couple of weeks at the very least, you will have to suffer along with it until you are fully cured.

And what happens if you get a recurrent yeast infection and suffer from vaginal irritation again? The same thing of course. You take your medication and wait for your infection to clear up, all the while suffering in agonized silence from your vaginal irritation.

There are however, other things which you can do to quell vaginal irritation, and these can for the most part be done alongside any medical treatments you might be doing or taking.

The first item on the board involves a lifestyle change, whereby you change your unhealthy fast-food high-stress lifestyle, for a healthier option, at least in the food department if not in the life department.

Cutting out such things as refined foods, unwanted starchy foods, high amounts of sugar and caffeine from your diet along with excesses in alcohol and cigarettes can go a long way to clearing your body of unwanted toxins.

In the same time if you also include unsweetened yogurt, garlic, vinegar and cranberries into your diet you will be help your body to rid itself of the yeast infection and thereby any vaginal irritation that you have.

Since this can also take some time to accomplish its goal, you might also want to try something else in the meantime as well. Home remedies as vaginal douches are a good alternative as are vaginal suppositories, and herbal treatments.

Some of the most common of these home remedies involves the use of unsweetened yogurt, garlic, apple cider vinegar, cranberries, cinnamon, oregano, and tea tree oil, and not all at the same time of course!

One of the best options you have to give you relief from your vaginal irritation is yogurt and you have a few options on how to apply it to your vagina.

The first is to coat a tampon in yogurt and insert it into the vagina, and the second is to take a needleless syringe, fill it with yogurt and placing it at the mouth of the vagina, squirt the yogurt inside.

Both remedies also call for you to wear a pad to avoid dripping yogurt wherever you go. Another quick fix for you to get almost immediate relief from vaginal irritation calls for a garlic clove wrapped in gauze and tied off with a length of unwaxed dental floss, to be inserted into the vagina.

Vaginal Infections

Vaginal infections are not something that any woman wants, but there are times when it is an unavoidable fact of life. There are times that no matter what you do, you might find yourself suffering from a yeast infection or some other vaginal infection.

At these times the best thing that you could do is to see consult your physician, especially if this is the first time you're experiencing something like it. And in some cases when you have been diagnosed, there's a good chance that sexual partner should also have a proper check up conducted.

This is due to the fact that since most vaginal infections are sexually transmitted, your partner too has a chance of contracting your infection. As this is the case, it's always best to rule out any possibility of the infection having passed. This will also allow your partner to receive proper treatment if need be.

You should also be aware that due to the high chances of passing on vaginal infections through sexual intercourse, if you have more than one sexual partner you might have already passed the infection on.

And in the case of vaginal infections it's always best if you can abstain from sexual relations altogether, and in most cases this entails not only vaginal intercourse, but also anal intercourse, and oral sex.

Of course if you can't abstain from sexual intercourse, you should always practice safe sexual methods. These won't necessarily guarantee you, or your partner's immunity from vaginal infections but it does give you some protection.

To that end you should always use a condom if you suffer from any vaginal infections and you're having sexual intercourse.

It should also be noted that some vaginal infections can occur or spread more rapidly if a woman if pregnant. This is as a result of the weakened immune system present in every woman during this time in her life.

Vaginal infections also have the potential to cause a difficult birthing process and your obstetrician/ gynecologist should be made aware of any vaginal infections that you may suffer from.

Another factor concerning vaginal infections and pregnancy is the medication used to help clear up the infection. In a great many cases, most of the medications used in the normal course of events can prove to be harmful to the unborn fetus, sometimes resulting early labor or deformity.

All of these factors need to be taken into account when dealing with vaginal infections, and alternative methods discussed. This holds true if you suffer from a different medical condition and are taking medication for that as well.

Your doctor should be informed of this factor so that medication to cure the vaginal infections can be given without causing any reactions with other medications and medical conditions.

Vaginal Diseases

Vaginal diseases can range from yeast infections to genital warts to cancer and back again. And these are all conditions that need to be taken seriously, even the lowly yeast infection. This is especially true if this particular vaginal disease is recurrent.

Recurrent yeast infections could be an indicator of something far more serious like HIV/ AIDS, just as recurrent genital warts can also be an indicator of something such as cervical cancer.

The first thing you need to do if you suspect that you might have one of the vaginal diseases is to consult with you physician and have a proper check up done. This can rule out other conditions and confirm for you whether or not you have something like a yeast infection.

Most vaginal diseases are contracted through sexual intercourse, and as such are considered to be sexually transmitted diseases.

And although yeast infections aren't technically considered to be a sexually transmitted disease since the infection doesn't spread through the exchange of bodily fluid, it can't be denied that yeast infections can be transferred from one partner to the other through sexual intercourse.

It should also be noted that some vaginal diseases are merely a symptom of a greater underlying medical condition like those mentioned earlier, and are not necessarily the root cause. Only proper testing can determine this.

The treatment of vaginal diseases isn't always easy and in some cases like genital warts it can be downright painful at times. There are however, things that can be done on your own to either help prevent vaginal diseases from occurring in the first, second or third place, or to help enhance whatever medications or remedies you might currently be taking.

If it's the latter case and you're already taking medication for your vaginal disease you might want to determine first of all whether anything else you take will react adversely with your present medication.

If however, you're on the offensive against vaginal diseases and want to stop it from occurring or recurring, there are things that you can do.

The easiest of course, and the most difficult in many cases, is to change dietary habits. Obviously that's easier said than done, but it can be done. You don't need to do too much, maybe a few small changes at first to help you.

Dietary changes, you should note, in the case of vaginal diseases don't refer to any of the latest fad diets, or starving yourself and living on a celery stalk for the entire day.

It means instead that you should switch to a healthier lifestyle if possible which eliminates as far as possible such things as refined foods, and fast foods. It should include leafy vegetables, fruits, and other good-for-you healthy foods.

Vaginal diseases don't need to be a constant blot on your life, as along with the dietary changes a few simple lifestyle changes can also make a great difference.

Vaginal Discharge

One of the most common signs and symptoms for sufferers of yeast infections is vaginal discharge. This need not be the case of course, but most times you will find that you will have some vaginal discharge with yeast infections.

This vaginal discharge can range from foul smelling and unpleasant to odorless and barely noticeable. There are a few different ways of dealing with vaginal discharge and homeopathic remedies are one of them.

Before going any further down that path however, you might first want to know what the discharge will be like. As was mentioned earlier it can be foul smelling, or it can be odorless, with a texture resembling either a thick white cottage cheese-like consistency or a thin, milky egg white consistency.

Some women also have a yellowish discharge which is firm and especially acrid or pungent, while sometimes the discharge can have a watery consistency.

All of these types vaginal discharge can lead to irritation, itching and/ or burning of the vagina. According to homeopathic treatments these types of vaginal discharge can also have an emotional impact on a woman, and it's along with this that homeopathy tries to cure the vaginal discharge caused by the yeast infection.

There are of course other methods if you aren't fully comfortable with using homeopathy to cure yeast infections and vaginal discharge problems.

One thing that you can do though if you suffer from vaginal discharge is to change your diet to reflect the fact that you have a yeast infection.

To this end staying away from yeast containing foods such as breads, fermented food products and alcohols, foods rich in sugars and carbohydrates, and also refined foods, and red meats should go a long way to helping you curb any vaginal discharge.

Mushrooms are also something that you might want to avoid. But things like brown rice and millet, citrus fruits such as grapefruits and oranges, lemons and limes should be included in your diet.

As should unsweetened yogurt, curd, cranberries, garlic, onions, vinegar, cinnamon, oregano, and also vegetables, vegetable broths and chicken. And something that most people absolutely forgets to include in their diets whether they have yeast infections or not, is water.

Drinking your allotted amount of water - eight glasses or more - a day, can do wonders for your body. It's not only a great thirst quencher but it also clears away unwanted toxins from your body, and it can give you a refreshing feeling just when your spirits need it the most.

It can also help to de-stress you, stress can also lead to yeast infections which leads to vaginal discharge. All in all, along with any remedies you're taking for your yeast infection, if you can just change your lifestyle to a healthier one, your yeast infection troubles in the form of itching, burning and vaginal discharge can be a thing of the past.

Vaginal Burning

If you suffer from a yeast infection some vaginal burning is not uncommon. In fact most women would say that they are beset by unbearable itching and vaginal burning. This can be a sore trial to you at the best of times, and it doesn't help when you have to present a happy serene face to the world when you have vaginal burning.

There are of course a few things that you can do about this, but for the most part it might be difficult for you to have an important business meeting with yogurt coating your vagina, or if you have a vaginal garlic suppository inserted.

For one thing the first option of a remedy can be messy and almost as discomfiting as the vaginal burning and the itching. And for another thing if you're not used to it there's a good chance that you'll forever be thinking about the possible consequences of the yogurt dripping or the garlic slipping out. Very embarrassing as you can imagine.

There's also the fact that many people might not like the smell of garlic, and although it can alleviate vaginal burning to a great degree as can yogurt, it just might not be the thing for you.

There are other natural remedies which you can try to relieve any vaginal burning, but it's almost certain that you will want to try these at home first until you're comfortable with them.

In which case, you have a few options which are open to you, and these include taking the yogurt or the garlic remedies in tablet form, the same results, only not just as fast if it were done the messy way.

Your other options to relieve vaginal burning due to yeast infections, includes the use of over the counter remedies, or prescription medications. Both these methods are also for the most quite painless and not messy.

In some instances you will have to resort to the use of whatever creams or solutions have been provided for you, but you will find that in some cases, like with that of the prescription medication Diflucan all you need to do is take one tablet.

However, as some people prefer not to take any medicinal drugs, other remedies for vaginal burning are also available, besides the ever popular yogurt and garlic.

For instance the use of apple cider vinegar in a sitz bath has been known to relieve vaginal burning. All you need to do here, is to fill the bathtub about hip deep with warm water and add

Vaginal Bacterial Infection

If you think you might have a vaginal bacterial infection, don't hesitate to have a proper medical checkup. There are a myriad of reasons why this is good for you, but the foremost reason is that by going in for a checkup you can rule out that what you have is anything other than a simple vaginal bacterial infection.

A vaginal bacterial infection can most of the time, be classed as a simple yeast infection. By determining for certain through a checkup that what you have is a vaginal bacterial infection you can then set about the task of finding the right kind of treatment for it.

By going in for a checkup you also give yourself some maneuvering room to take preventative action against a possible recurrence of your vaginal bacterial infection.

Most vaginal bacterial infections will be uncomfortable and will generally have you running around in circles to find a relief from the itching, or burning sensations you might suffer from.

With a vaginal bacterial infection such as a yeast infection you might also have to deal with a cottage cheese-like discharge which can also have an unpleasant acrid smell to it.

There's no help for it really, if you do suffer from a vaginal bacterial infection you will need to get it treated as the chances are good that it won't go away on its own. You'll also want to try and abstain from having sexual relations until the vaginal bacterial infection clears up as well.

Since it's an "infection" and not something else there's a better than even chance that you can pass on your vaginal bacterial infection to your partner as well regardless of whether they're male or female.

However in the event that you find yourself unable to abstain from sexual intercourse, you might want to practice safe sex and use condoms as far as possible. Although this might not be a 100% fool proof method of protecting against the transmittance of your vaginal bacterial infection it does stand a better chance than using nothing at all.

Also, with a vaginal bacterial infection you will want as far as possible to stop it from recurring. You might be cured of the initial vaginal bacterial infection but you can get it again through sexual intercourse with an infected partner, so it's always best to be aware of that possibility.

To that end, taking all the necessary precautions, changing dietary habits and generally as stress free lives as possible can go a long way in fighting a vaginal bacterial infection. With minor changes such as these you give your immune system a fighting chance to stand up against whatever infection might be thinking about your body.

Skin Yeast Infections

Although vaginal yeast infections might be the more common type of yeast infection, there are other types of yeast infections which can affect a person. These include penile yeast infections, mouth yeast infections and skin yeast infections.

All of these types of yeast infections are contagious and can be passed from person to person if contact is made with any portion of the infected area. For vaginal and penile yeast infections this normally occurs as a result of sexual intercourse with an infected person.

Skin yeast infections also occur in much the same way although not as a result of sexual intercourse. If you come into contact with a person who has skin yeast infections there is a good chance that the infection can be passed on.

The same applies to using the towel of a person with skin yeast infections. That's why it's recommended that you keep your towel separate from other towels while you have skin yeast infections and until you become cured.

Your clothes should also be kept separately as should any personal items. When your infection has cleared up you should continue this vigilance and launder your clothes and towel separately.

In fact although it might sound old fashioned you might want to first soak your infected clothes in boiling water beforehand as well to thoroughly eliminate all signs of the skin yeast infections.

Another thing that you can do if you suffer from skin yeast infections is to pat yourself dry instead of rubbing, the places where you have skin yeast infections. This will keep the abrasion of the towel down to a minimum and if you have a rash or irritation which is tender, this will help to contain the pain you might otherwise feel.

Just as there were no over the counter medications available for vaginal yeast infections until a few years ago, there are no over the counter medications available for skin yeast infections.

For skin yeast infections treatments you will need to ask your doctor what options are available to you. There will be a few, but they will for the most part be prescription medications.

You could if you wanted to, compliment these medications with such things as herbal teas, tinctures and oils, but you would want to ask your doctor beforehand to make sure that they didn't react adversely with your medication.

Skin yeast infections are also relatively easy to diagnose, although it's not recommended that you do so yourself. Going to trained medical personnel to get a diagnosis can save you a lot of time and wasted effort and will make sure that you get the necessary treatment.
